About Us
As a global economics consultancy, we can help you make informed decisions which take into account local and global developments and technology evolutions.
Who We Are
We’re an independent global economics consultancy that helps organisations across the private and public sectors to make informed strategic and policy decisions. We do this by providing clear, intelligent and actionable insights through the effective use of evidence.
We’re united by a vision to build a sustainable future by advancing economics that cares about people, communities and the planet. Our 50-strong team of expert economists are committed to delivering the highest-quality analysis and insights, helping to inform better investment decisions and better policy designs for the short and long term.
Our independence allows us to provide robust and honest insights. These are designed to help you deepen your understanding of the potential impact your strategic and policy decisions could have in the real world.
We’re proud to partner with some of the best and brightest minds in the world – spanning academia, think tanks and research institutions. We regularly partner across disciplines and capabilities, and are not afraid of pioneering new methodologies and approaches to solve difficult challenges.

Our Story
Cambridge Econometrics was founded in 1985 as a commercial spin-off from the University of Cambridge to take forward the pioneering work of Professor Sir Richard Stone, Nobel Laureate in Economics.
Led by Professor Terry Barker, our approach to empirical economic analysis put Cambridge Econometrics at the cutting edge of macroeconomic modelling in the 1980s and 90s, a position we maintain to this day. Ongoing innovation combined with academic rigour led to the development of our flagship macroeconomic model E3ME, first created as part of a series of contracts in the JOULE/THERMIE and European Commission research programmes.
In the 1990s, leadership passed from Professor Terry Barker to our now Chair Richard Lewney who led the consultancy for three decades, establishing our role as a trusted partner to policymakers around the world. Over the last decade, our current CEO Phil Summerton and the leadership team have seen our Cambridge-based consultancy globalise and diversify into a 50-strong team of highly skilled expert economists, across offices in the UK, Belgium, Hungary and the US.
Majority-owned by The Cambridge Trust for New Thinking in Economics, we’re driven by a desire to make a difference, not just a profit. When we partner with you, we take pride in not only delivering independent and robust insights to help inform your immediate decisions, but also in offering training, advice and capacity building that continues to deliver long-lasting value over years to come.

Our Approach to Economics
Our work stems from a conviction that better economics, data and analysis inform better decisions, for people, communities and the planet. We care about building a sustainable future for all and strive to play our part.
Our brand of economics is empirical in nature and intently focused on what it means in and for the real world. At heart we’re applied economists, interested in economics that works, while not shying away from its limitations and uncertainties.
With an intellectual history rooted in the best of the Cambridge tradition, we’ve worked this way from the start and are committed to doing so now and in the future.

Our Offices
With offices around the world, our team work on a wide range of projects across economic, social and environmental policy that drive real-world impact for our clients and partners.
