The socio-economic impact of the Copernicus space programme

October 2016

Study to examine the socio-economic impact of Copernicus in the EU estimated the GDP impact of space activities in Europe for DG GROW of the European Commission in partnership with PwC.

We developed a methodology and applied this to the EU Copernicus programme, to produce a quantitative assessment of its economic and employment impacts.

The results were as follows:

The estimates were made using the E3ME macroeconomic model to calculate the supply-chain impacts of the programme’s spending across EU Member States.
