North Essex garden communities employment & demographic studies

Cambridge Econometrics, in collaboration with SQW, was commissioned to undertake a demographic and employment study of the three new proposed garden communities in North Essex.

North Essex Garden Cities report

A demographic model was established for each of the Garden Communities, using CE’s Chelmer Population and Housing Model. The Chelmer models were used to develop a number of demographic scenarios, in order to provide a ‘most likely’ demographic profile for each settlement, which can be used to inform future service provision planning.

A framework was then developed for considering future employment growth, and a series of alternative economic scenarios were developed and quantified using CE’s Local Economy Forecasting Model (LEFM).

The economic scenarios were used to identify the implications for each of the Garden Communities, in order to inform job creation targets.
