The economic impact of modern retail on the EU food sector

The economic impact of modern retail on choice and innovation in the EU food sector was a major project for the European Commission, led by Ernst & Young with Arcadia International and Cambridge Econometrics.

The study looked at whether changes in the concentration in the food retail sector affected consumer welfare,  particularly with regard to choice and innovation.

We undertook state-of-the-art panel data methods on highly disaggregated data on the product offer available within shops.
