Global analysis
The global economy has become increasingly complex and interdependent in recent years, as the experiences of the financial and economic crisis of 2008 and the associated recession illustrated. The reality is that established economic relationships are being redrawn through an increasingly two-speed global economy. The pace of transition in the rapidly-expanding Asian economies is bringing increasing affluence to these important markets. The outlook for growth in western economies is, in contrast, much weaker with adverse demographic trends and the need in the medium term to correct public sector funding imbalances.
At the same time, international agreements, be they bilateral trade agreements or the outcome of global summits, are increasingly setting the position within which public policy and business strategies must be able to respond. A global approach to economic analysis and the ability to consider it within the wider context of sustainable development is vital now for issues such as:
- analysis of trade policy
- technology perspectives
- sustainability impact assessments
- global sector strategies
- climate change analysis
- international carbon markets
