UK macroeconomic and sectoral forecasts

How do I access the information?

Knowledge Base

Our regular economic forecasts are presented in our Knowledge Base website (see user guide) with analysis and forecasts updated twice a year (in January and June). The Knowledge Base incorporates powerful search facilities that enable subscribers to target precisely the information that they need from our reports and databases. The Knowledge Base contains in-depth commentary to explain the forecast and highlight major themes of contemporary relevance.

The structure of the Knowledge Base and the selection of tables has evolved to match the needs of our subscribers. The Knowledge Base is divided into three parts:

  • The forecast overview with chapters on the world economy, UK economic policy, the industrial forecast and the macroeconomic background
  • Industry in detail, with text, charts and tables to analyse and interpret the prospects for the 41 industries distinguished in the report
  • The main tables giving the macroeconomic summary, an intermediate level of detail for forecasts of output by broad sector, and finally levels and growth rates for a wide range of economic variables at the full 41-industry level.
  •

    Recent themes include:

  • Comparing cyclical troughs: how sharp will the slowdown be? (June 2008)
  • The slowdown in the UK economy: how sharply will households curb spending (January 2008)
  • The restructuring of Britain's economy has accelerated in recent years (June 2007)
  • The trend reduction in UK GHG emissions has stalled in recent years (January 2007)
  • International migration is driving an acceleration in the UK's population growth (June 2006)
  • The skills debate is focusing on the way to respond to accelerating globalisation (January 2006)
  • How important has government spending been to UK growth? (June 2005)
