Econometrics Training Service
How will the service support me?
Cambridge Econometrics offers four different courses within its Econometrics
Training Services portfolio:
- Introductory Econometrics
- Evaluating Econometric Modelling
- Working with Microfit, a three-day course in econometric techniques
- On-line Introductory Econometrics
(1) Introductory Econometrics
- The course reflects the increasing use of statistical analysis by non-specialists in the business world.
- It is aimed primarily at people whose experience of econometrics does not extend beyond courses taught as part of an undergraduate economics degree.
- It makes use of the popular Microfit and EViews econometrics software.
- It can be seen either as a preparatory course for the more advanced Working with Microfit workshop held each spring in Cambridge, or as a stand-alone training programme in its own right.
- The course enables participants to understand the basic principles of data analysis and time series econometrics, taking them to a level where they can both undertake their own empirical research and understand better the work of more 'technical' experts in their field.
(2) Evaluating Econometric Modelling
- The course combines the expertise developed through the more specialised econometrics training courses with the extensive experience CE has gained through its model evaluation projects in areas such as the property market, environmental impact, and forecasting demand and prices for business clients.
- The course is intended to equip research contract managers with a set of techniques that can be applied to the results of research work to verify quality and hence strengthen assessment procedures.
- People attending the course would be expected to have a basic understanding or econometric techniques, such as those taught as part of an undergraduate economics degree.
(3) Working with Microfit, a three-day course in econometric techniques
- The aim of the workshop is to bring participants up-to-date quickly with the latest econometric methods, which are illustrated with a variety of practical applications.
- The course is normally led by Prof Hashem Pesaran of the University of Cambridge, one of the world's leading econometricians and co-author of the popular Microfit econometrics software.
Participants take away from the course a wider knowledge (both breadth and depth) of how to apply the cutting edge techniques to their own work-related issues.
(4) Introductory Econometrics on the Web
- The course is aimed at individuals who are not able to participate in a group training session, or who want to be able to go through the course at their own pace.
- The course has a modular basis, so that participants can choose from a range of topics which best meet their own training requirements.
- It makes use of the popular Microfit and EViews econometrics software.
