    Short-term outlook

    North West England has been recovering at slightly faster pace than the UK, with growth being driven by strong performances in manufacturing, transport & communications and construction. This recovery is expected to continue with the North West outperforming the UK average. Future output growth is expected to come from continued success in manufacturing alongside a recovery in the financial & business services sector.

    Unfortunately future output growth in the North West is forecast to be jobless, with virtually no change in employment expected in 2011 and a marginal decline expected in 2012.
