Jon Stenning has responsibility for the day-to-day operation, development and marketing of CE's European Regional Service which analyses the European economies in regional detail. The work includes running and maintaining the European Regional Model (EUREGM) and the detailed European Regional Databank with consistent and coherent indicators for all current and new member states at NUTS 2 level, as well as overseeing the production of the European Service report European Regional Prospects. He also contributes to CE's regular reports Industry and the British Economy and Regional Economic Prospects. Previously at CE he had responsibility for coordinating the updating of the company's detailed UK databases which form the foundation for our large-scale econometric models, the Multisectoral Dynamic Model of the UK economy (MDM), the Local Economy Forecasting Model (LEFM) and the Regional Economy-Environment Input-Output Model (REEIO).
Jon has management responsibility for an ongoing 4-year project for the European Commission (DG REGIO) to deepen understanding of the economic development in the NUTS2 regions of the EU27. Recent projects that Jon has contributed to include the development of a NUTS2 regional capital stock dataset for Europe, developing an evidence base against which to measure the success of strategies aimed at improving growth and investment in the Birmingham, Coventry and the Black Country City Region (for the West Midlands Regional Observatory), and forecasting water demand and trade effluent for a major water company to be used in its business plan and submissions to Ofwat and the Environment Agency.
Prior to completing his undergraduate degree in Economics at Bath University, he worked at CE for a one-year placement, specialising in the application of programming languages to the processing and analysis of detailed data.
