The Shape of Things to Come
forecasts and scenarios for the global economy
and European city-regions

Wednesday 2 December 2009, Royal Geographical Society, 1 Kensington Gore, London, SW7

It looks like the trough of the global recession has been reached, and activity has stabilised in the leading industrialised countries following extensive government and monetary authority intervention to support spending and the supply of credit. Stock markets have performed well. But it is still far from clear what the shape, sustainability and spatial distribution of the recovery will be. Unemployment is still rising and balance sheets are still being repaired. This half-day conference aimed to develop a better understanding of the drivers and spatial aspects of the global, European and UK recovery paths. We wanted to go beyond a simple presentation of point forecasts and see what could be learned from scenarios carried out with our portfolio of global, European and UK multi-sectoral/regional economic models. The two sessions allowed ample time for questions and discussion.
